Make South Way Safer: Reduce Speeding with a 30mph Limit

At present South Way from just beyond Furtherfield is 40mph to Langley Lane. The rest of South Way (to Hunton Bridge) is 30mph.

In the last ten years there have been changes in the section of South Way from Furtherfield to Langley Lane, namely the building of the Langley Lane play area at the junction with South Way, installation of pedestrian crossing points, the creation of 4 cul-de-sacs off South Way serving houses on the Aerodrome Way estate and the opening of the Horses’ Field as an extension to the Leavesden Country Park.

We have often had complaints from Furtherfield and South Way residents about vehicles at excessive speed. We have asked for speed checks by the Police and have done so again. A Speed Indicator Device sign has been installed but it is still a problem. At least a consistent speed limit would make it clear to motorists that they should slow down, not speed up. 40mph is an unsuitable speed limit here and poses dangers to residents and children. The Police and Herts County Council should now move to reduce ALL of South Way to a consistent 30mph rather in line with the Council's Speed Management Policy. So we have started a petition and will send to the County Council demanding action if we get enough support.

If you agree with us please sign.

Make all of South Way 30mph

Please sign our petition demanding that: We, the undersigned, call upon Herts County Council to make all of South Way 30mph as soon as possible rather than the current unsafe split of part 30mph, and part 40mph.
